SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tho ordinory fortnightly meeting of tho Sydenham Borough Council wa< hold at 7 p.m. yesterday} present-Hi# Worship the Mayor, Councillors White, Pavitt, Hall, Langdown, Webber, Joyce, Nioholl, Forrester and Andrew. OOBBBBFONDENOE. A letter was road from Mr E. G. Wright, M.H.B, in reply to ono from the Council convoying their thanks to that gentleman for his efforts to obtain representation for Sydenham on tho Lyttelton Harbour Board. Mr Wright expressed tho pleasure he felt at receiving tho thanks of the Council, and stated that ho hoped to see tho representation of tho Borough on tho Board secured at the next session of Parliament, especially as there would be five members of the House instead of one, directly interested in the question, TLo loiter was ordered to be received. WORKS COMMITTEE. Tho Works Committee reported that they had instructed tho Foreman of Works to proceed with tho construction of Disraeli street. Tho report also stated that tho Committee would be glad to have a meeting with tho Finauce Committee respecting the construction of concrete side-channelling, as they were desirous of obtaining further information on the question. The report was received and adopted. sanitary committee. The following report of "tho Sanitary Committee was read :—“ Your Committee beg to report that they have drawn tho attention of tho Board of Health to the state of the old bed of Jackson’s creek, and to the stagnant water lying in tho gullies on the Hon John Hall’s and Mr Lancaster’s properties in rural sections, Nos. 13 and 42; also to the fact that offensive rubbish is still being deposited in the old clay pit on Messrs Piper Bros.’ property.” Tho report was received and adopted. NBW ODDFELLOWS’ HALL. It was resolved that the Works Committee should be requested to inspect the plans of the now Oodfdlows’ Hall, in order to see that proper means of egress in case of fire or sudden alarm were provided. FINANCIAL. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts for the post fortnight amounted to £l9l 2s Bd, including rotes, £165 9# 2d. The accounts passed for payment amounted to £4Bl 4s 3d. The credit balance at the Bank was £562 16s sd. Tho Committee also reported further on the matters dealt with in their report of tho previous meeting, withdrawing that report, and recommending that tho Collector should report periodically to tho Committee, and that the junior Clerk should be under the direction of the Town Clerk, unites other directions had been previously given by the Council or the Committee. It was decided that the recommendations of tho Committee should be deferred for the joint consideration of the Finance and Works Committees.
The Mayor reported the result of the interview of a deputation of the Council with the Hon W. i'tolleston concerning the Borough reserves. The final answer of the Government on the subject had not yet been received from Wellington. This concluded the business, and ths meeting terminated.
