Hopkins, enclosing cheque on account of Cemetery road Bridge, and asking for some time to enable the moneys promised to be collected. Agreed to give a short time.—Assistant Engineer to Drainage Board re contractor for Drain road. Attended to.—From Messrs Lightband, Allan and Co., agreeing to dedicate a piece of land to the Queen to widen the River road. Their offer was received, with thanks.—From Mr 0. Cuff, re footpath on Blaughter-house road. Deferred to next Board day for Mr Attwood to report.—From Mr T. Hullen re state of drain in Armagh street. To be attended to. —From Mr W. H. Thorne, re state of drain across Hirer road. Referred to the Chairman and Mr Dryden, with power to act.—A number of applications for remission of rates were considered and dealt with.—From Inspector of Police re impounding of cattle, enclosing report of Crabtree's case. The Chairman woo requested to answer this.— From Mr Career, on the same subject. As the matter occurred in the Avon District it was outside the jurisdiction of the Board.— From Mr A. Burrowes, giving his version of the affair. It was decided to let the whole matter stand over to next Beard day.—Mr H. Irwin waited on the Bord re special rate for forming Ball's road. Ue was informed that the Board had no power to levy special rates except on the annual value.—After passing accounts for £587 16s 9d, the Board adjourned.

OXFORD. The ordinary fortnightly meeting of this Board was postponed from Friday, Deo. 9 to Monday last, as the election was deed for the former date.—All the members were present, Mr Wilson Fisher in the chair.—The Clerk’s report was read And considered, and a number of works sanctioned.—lt was molted to hold the annual election on Tuesday, Jan. 3. —The Clerk was instructed to prepare a list of those persons having gone growing on the road; to apply to the Cust Bead Board, and oik their co-operation about, gone on Bennetts boundary road.—The following persona waited upon the Board;—Mr James Whyte, about his contract on Burnt Htli road, and saying that, as be had so far to cart the metal, be could not possibly do the work, and that when he tendered be was under the impression that Mr Pearson would give two pita, but that he has declined to do. About half the work had been done.—The Board decided to allow him to complete the v>ork as far as the present shingle was out, and call fresh tenders for the remainder.—Mr Stubbs re watercourses on Sale’s road, and asking for one course to be stopped and taken to a lower one, following the ditch on the road.—The Board decided to visit the place, and give notice to Mr Stubbs when the time for the meeting was appointed.—Mr John Gundy asking for an allowance for taking out a largo boulder in the cutting. Mr Ffitch proposed, and Mr Bennett seconded —“ That Mr Gundy bo -allowed £l.” Mr Ffitch said that he knew it had taken them four days to get the rock oat, and he thought they ought to have some allowance made. Mr Ingram proposed that nothing be allowed the contractor. He knew the case was an exceptional one, bat it was a bad precedent, and simply on this ground he should vote against it. Mr Fisher seconded, and Mr Luera voted for the amendment The motion was therefore lost. Tenders were opened for the various works, and one in each case accepted.—Accounts to the amount of £124 4s 9d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. KOWAI. A special meeting of the Board was held on Dec. 12, all the members being present.— Messrs King, Bussell, M'Lean, and others waited on the Board re construe! ion of breakwater at Leitbfleld. It was resolved that the B'Mird contribute £1 to every pound collected, and that the Surveyor meet toe deputation at a date to be named by them.—Tenders for contracts 110, US, 114, and 117 were accepted. Contracts 111, 115,116, and 118 were deferred, there not being more than oi e tender in for each. —Mr M'Adam attended on the Board rt the sparrow question. Requested to wait os the Board on Monday, Jan. 2.—lt was decided to hold the annual meeting on the same day at 12 noon, and the Board then adjourned. EYBETOar. The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Deo. 12 [ present—Messrs Dixon, Dawson, Maindonafd, and Moderate. The outward oormpondenee was read and approved. The Surveyor’s report were road and adopted.—The following fetters was road .—From Mr U. Lows, Bsiiway Engineer, stating the Govsrnmsnt proposed to build a new bridge near Bennetts JimoUoa, in the line of the old water-course, some little distance south of the existing bridge, but do not contemplate closing the existing bridge. It was resolved that a reply b# seat to tbs Minister for Public Works that this Board are of opinion that there is no necessity for another bridge at Bennetts, os the present one was ample to carry all the water i therefore it would be a useless expen. diture, as the water had already been dealt with in its present course.—From the Dust Hoad Board, agreeing to pay half the cost of concrete culvert across the boundary mad near Collier's old bouse.—lt was resolved that the Oust Boad Board bo written to reonesting them to join this Board in repairing Mine of the damage done along the tram road by the overflow at Bennetts.—lt was retired that the Board meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Jan. 8, and that the annual meeting of ratepayers bo held the same day at noon. for the election of two members in place of mL,m SSon and Maindonald, who retire by rotation i the poll, if necessary, te be taken forthwith. —Tenders were opened for various works, and one in each case was resolved that, In the event of M Gowan not doing the work, his deposit shall be for feited, and that A.
