NORMAL SCHOOL.

Yesterday the annual distribution of prises took place at the Normal School in the presence of a large number of ladies and gentlemen, friends and relatives of the pupils. The prizes were first given to the children in the infants' department, Mr John logits, rthfl— o f the Board of Education, making the distribution, which he accompanied with a few appropriate remarks. The principal portion of the day's proceeding took place in ihe Drill-shed, ot one end of which was erected a dais. Here the BcvO. f rarer and Messrs Montgomery, Booth and H. B. Wehh were accommodated with loatt. Tbs prizes having been distributed, amid the frequent applause of all present, the Chairman read a letter from the teachers and scholars accompanying a testimonial to Mis* Eadclife. The Chairman supplemented the letter by assuring Miss Radchue of his own regret, and the regret of the Board, that she was leaving the Normal School The testimonial, coaekUng of a silver bracelet and necklet, also a handsome “ lady's SMBpuios," was then handed to Mu* Baddiffe, for whom Mr Thornton returned rtuLftk*.

The Chairman then presented Mr Thornton with a gold albert chain, which had been subscribed for by the teachers and boy* of the school In making the presentation Mr Inglu, for himself and the Board, complimented Mr Thornton very highly on bis put career, and wished him every success in his now sphere. Mr Thornton acknowledged the gift in suitable terms. The principal of the school, <Mr Malcolm, •poke in eulociatio terms of both Miss Eadsliffe wed Ur Thornton, whose departure bo deeply regretted. Ihe Chairman announced that the holidays would ba for five weeks from date. MrH. B. Webb moved, and theßev 0. Fraser seconded a vote of thanks to Mr Malcolm and the other teachers. The proposal was received with Ihe heartiest cheers, and the compliment eras acknowledged by Mr Ihomton. A programme of musical selections by the elder scholars in the girls' school, and some recitations by the prize winners in this particular department was gone through, to Ihe great delight of those present Three cheers for Mr Inglu and the Board of Education, called for by Mr Bayner, and sundry other cheers, concluded the business. Special prizes, given by Miss Barlow, swarded to Maud Lana and Cecil Grossman, for spelling.
