BREADALBANE SCHOOL.

The annual athletic sports in connection with the above school took place on Saturday afternoon last. The events, which wore well contested, and gave very good result*, considering the age of the competitors, afforded a great source of interest and amusement to the parents and friends of tho pupils who were present as spectators. The following, are the results

100 yards flat race (under 10)—Matson, minor, 1; Btoddart, 2; Brown, minor, 8. 100 jarde flat race (under 14)—Watt, minor, 1} Broughton, minor, 2; lines and Brown, major, 8 (tie.) 100 yards flat race (over 14)—M'Lcan, 1 5 Pearce, major, 2; Broughton, maximus, 8. The competitors had settled into their places and were going evenly up to 800 yards from home, when Pearce, who was running fourth, put on a magnificent spurt, and running through the others, won a good race by about 20 yards. Quarter-mile steeplechase, over two water jumps and four gone hurdles (under 14)— Brown, major, 1; Broughton, minor, 2; Watt, major, 8. Half-mile steeplechase, over four water jumps and eight gorse hurdles (over 14)— Birdling, major, 1 ; M'Lean, 2; Buchanan, 8. The water jumps were 10 feet and 12 foot wide, one of them having a corse hurdle added. Both the steeplechases afforded groat amusement, though the boys who got into the water, instead of over it, appeared to take both the laughter of the spectators and the ducking in a very philosophic way. Xh© ©port© concluded with a tug-or-war between a team of boys from Christ’s College Grammar School, and a team representing Breadolbano school This event, which was short and decisive, was pulled off by the Breadolbano boys. The prizes for the sports, which hod been supplemented by two handsome silver cups, kindly presented by Mr* Cunningham, and other prizes given by Mr David Craig, were distributed to the boys on Monday evening, and the ordinary school prizes by Mr Peter Cunningham. The silver champion cup, for boys over 14, was won by M'Lean, with a total of 20 points in the sports, the oup for boys under 14 falling to Broughton, minor. In presenting the prizes, Mr Cunningham addressed the boys, in what be termed a short lecture, giving them sound practical advice, and bis remarks were supplemented by the JHon J. T. Peacock and the Bov T. cloven, Mr Cunningham called for three cheers for the Bov Mr Forgusson (the principal), Mr F. Fergusson, and the other masters, and with a round of cheers for Mr and Mrs Cunningham thU part of the proceedings terminated. Dancing was then indulged in by those present for tbo remainder of the evening, in the large schoolroom, which hod been tastefully decorated by the boys with plants and flowers of all descriptions.
