Dated this Eleventh Day of January, 1860. JOHN HALL, Returning Officer. The following is the polling place for the Electoral District of Kaiapoi:— The Resident Magistrate's Court House, Kaiapoi. JOHN HALL, Returning Officer. Dated the Eleventh Day of January, 1860.
TO THE ELECTORS of the HEATHCOTE DISTRICT; GENTLEMEN,— Having resigned my seat in the Provincial Council in order to accept the office of Provincial Auditor, I beg to offer myself as a candidate for re-election. Since the last occasion on which I had the honor of being returned as one of your representatives, questions of considerable importance have come under the consideration of the Provincial Council; on all of these I have voted with a view to secure a result which should be beneficial to the province at large. I have opposed the railway project, not from any objection to the scheme in itself, but because, as we are heavily in debt, at least one year of economy, will, in my opinion, be requisite before we should be in a position to enter upon such an undertaking. I have invariably opposed extravagance of expenditure, and have advocated the utmost publicity of the public accounts. This latter resulb would be secured by my presence in the Council as Provincial Auditor; and in the event of your again honoring me with your confidence, I should hope, on this account, to be able to render you more efficient service than heretofore. ' I have the honor to be, gentlemen, Your obedient servant, • B. J. S. HARMAN. Jan. 12,1860. PURSUANT to the Provisions of the Auctioneers Ordinance, Session 3, No. 111., I hereby give notice that the undermentioned person has taken out an Auctioneer's License for the term ending 30th June, 1860.
