LYTTELTON & OHRISTCHURCH MAIL. fIIENDERS will be received at this office JL until noon on' Friday, the 20th day of January, 1860, for the conveyance, of a mail between .Lyttelton and Christchurch, and the delivery of letters daily on the line of road between the two towns, and at the residences either in Lyttelton or Christclmrch, to the persons to whom they are addressed, for 12 months, from the Ist April, 18G0. The mail to start from Lyttelton daily (except on Sundays) at 9 o'clock a.m., conveying letters and Post-office parcels, and newspapers for delivery at the Post-office, Christchurch, and an open bag containing letters and newspapers for delivery to persons living on. the road side along the line of route. Auother mail to start from Christchurch daily (except on Sundays) at 9 o'clock a.m., conveying letters and newspapers for delivery at the Postoffice, Lyttelton, and an open bag containing letters and newspapers for delivery to persons living on the road side along the line of route. v Twelve mails are expected yearly from England, vi& Australia. The contractor to undertake to convey any such mail or any colonial mail brought by steamers to Port Lyttelton out to Christchurch, to start whenever required, at any time between the hours of 6 o'clock a.m., and 8 o'clock p.m., from Lyttelton. Tenders must state whether it is proposed to carry the mail by the Sumner-road or by the bridlepath. All letters and papers to be delivered on the day they are received, either at the respective Postoffices or at the residences, either in Lyttelton or Christchurch, of the persons to whom they are addressed. This delivery to include all letters and news? papers from other Post-offices, handed by the postmaster to the contractor. 2. CHRISTCHURCH & KAIAPOI MAIL. Tenders will be received at this office until noon on Friday, the 20th day of January, 1860, for the conveyance of a mail between Christchurch and Kaiapoi daily (Sundays excepted) for 12 months, from the. Ist day of April, 1860. The mail to start from Christchurch at noon, and to leave Kaiapoi for Christchurch at the same hour. 3. KMAPOI & KANGIORA MAIL. . Tenders will be received at this office until noon on Friday, the 20th January, 1860, for the conveyance of mails between Kaiapoi and. Rangiora twice a week, for 12 months, from the Ist day of April, 1860. Mails to start from Kaiapoi on Mondays and Thursdays, half an hour after the arrival of the mail from Christchurch, and from Rangiora on Tuesdays and Fridays, so as to reach Kaiapoi by 11.30 a".m. 4. CARRIAGE OF MAIL BETWEEN KAIAPOI & SALTWATER CREEK, ONCE A WEEK. Tenders will be received at this office until noon on Friday, the 20fch January, 1860, for the conveyance of mails once a week between Kaiapoi and Saltwater Creek, for 12 months, from the Ist day of April, 1860. Mails to, start from Kaiapoi every Tuesday at 9 a.m., leaving Saltwater Creek on the return to Kaiapoi at 3 p.m. on the same day. 5. LYTTELTON & AKAROA MAIL. Tenders will be received at this office until noon on-Friday, the 20th day of January, 1860, for the conveyance of a mail weekly between Lyttelton and Akaroa, for 12 months, from the Ist day of April, 1860, by one of the following routes: — Ist. By the route by boat to Pigeon Bay; thence "by land to Duvauchelle Bay, thence by boat to Akaroa, or varying this latter part of the route by land from Duvauchelle Bay to Akaroa. 2nd. From Lyttelton to Purao (or Rhodes' Bay), from Purao by the direct road to Duvauchelle Bay, thence to Akaroa by land or water. Tenders must provide for receipt and delivery of the Pigeon Bay mail on the journey either way between Akaroa and Lyttelton. An open bag to be taken up and delivered at Duvauchelle Bay if required. No mail to exceed 40 pounds in weight. Three hours to be allowed at Akaroa after the deivery of a mail to the Postmaster for the return mail to be made up. The mail to start from Lyttelton every Tuesday, and from Akaroa every Thursday. Tenders for this service must include the cost of conveyance of branch mails to and from Pigeon Bay, and must state the route proposed to be adopted and the spot at which the branch mails will join the main line. The Pigeon Bay mail not to exceed 28 lbs. in weight. 6. AKAROA TO OKAIN'S BAY. Tenders will be received at this office until noon n Friday, the 20th day "of January, 1860, for the onveyance of a mail once a fortnight between Akaroa and Okain's Bay, for the 12 months, from the first Thursday in April, 1860. The contractor to start from Akaroa two hours after the arrival of the mail from Lyttelton at that place. 7. CHRISTCHURCH & WAITANGI MAIL. Tenders will be received at this office until noon on Friday, the 20th day of January, 1860, for the conveyance of a mail fortnightly between Christchurch and the river Waitangi, for 12 months, from the Ist day of April, 1860. Except owing to unavoidable accident, the mail not to be more than three days in summer, and four days in winter on the route to Timaru, and two days from Timaru to the river Waitangi, remaining at least four^ hours in Timaru and the same period at the Waitangi. (Summer months to be considered from the Ist day of November to the 31st day of March ; winter, Ist day of April to 31st day of October.) GENERAL CONDITIONS. Contractors will not be allowed to take up at any place within one mile of a Post-office letters or newspapers for delivery on the road side without having them taxed at the office, and in like manner will not be allowed to deliver within one mile of any Post-oifice letters or newspapers taken up on the way previous to their being taxed. But letters and newspapers may be carried by the contractors between places along the road which are more than a mile distant from the Post-office. .- Contractors must undertake to receive and deliver letter bags at such houses or places along the road as may be desired by the Postmaster. will be bound to proceed with mails without any undue delay or stoppage on the road after the hour of departing from the Post-office. The 1 ostmaster to have the option at any time of (Maying the carrier for half an hour after the usua hour for the departure of the mail.
