DIOCESAN SYNOD.

Monday, 26th September,

Tho Synod .resumed its (fittings, pursuant to adjournment this" day ut half-pant Six p.m. Prosent:—The Biwhop of Climtelmrch. Yon. Archdeacon Mathins, Roys. W. ff. Willock, 11. .Tncobs, J. Wilnon, Geo. Cottorill, 0. Alabaster, M. Lally, H. Foudall, 0. Dowon. H. W. Hitrpor, F. Knowlos, mid Henry Torlesso. Messrs. Ac-land, Burkor, Blaklnton, Bowen,,Halt, Muude, Potts, Scott, Thomson, Torlosso, and Wyldo. Prayers having boen read, the uninutoH of tho last meeting wero read and confirmed. The Bishop announced to tho synod that tho Revs. C. Bowon H.W. Harper, and F.lCnowles, had «inco their last meeting boen admitted to tho order of Priesthood, and that Mr, Henry Torlesso had boon ordained Doacon, and become entitled to a seat in the synod. His Lordship then presented from Lyttelton, Kaiapoi North and South, and Lower Houthcoto, applications for .recognition as parishes, which wore referred to tho Select Committee on Parishes. The standing-orders being suspended, on the motion of the Bey. H. Jacob*, the synod went into committee to reconsider tho statute for the formation of.parishes and tho appointment of parish officers, in which some amendments were made and tho consideration of othowpostponed to allow of tho introduction of a new section under Clause I, to be brought up by the Key. C. Alabaster to-morrow, (Tuesday.) Tbo interpretation statute was also reconsidered.in committee and one new clause having been adopted, the statute was reported as amended. The synod then resumed in .committee the -consideration of the statute for tho'election of nominators. Anamendmont on clause 1, proposed by Mr. Acland, that the nominators should-be chosen from-tho communicants of the parish instead of from members of Diocesan Synod " after prolonged discussion, was lost on division. Moved by Mr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Acland that clause I be omitted, and a new clause substituted to the effect that tho election of nominators by the Diocesan Synod shall he conducted so far as may be, in the manner -prescribed for the election of tho Standing- Commission.—Carried. On clause 2, an animated and lengthy discussion ensued, and after various proposed amendments it was moved by Bey C Alabaster, and seconded by Rev. J. Wilson to the,effect, « that any person appointed by a parish shall, if afterwards appointed nominator by the Diocesan Synod,<vaeate tho office to which he has been appointed by the parishV'-Carried. The other clauses were carried, with the exception- of clause-3 the eon sideration of which was temporarily postponed. After notices of motion the synod adjourned at 10 p.m
