CHRISTCHURCH MECHANICS' INSTITUTE.
A quarterly meeting of members of the above institution was held-'pursuant to-notice-on -Wednesday evening last, 28th ult, an the Town Hall, Christ-church. The attendance .was not numerous, comprising ■not ni-ore than. 25 •members, many being absent a*t a meeting of the committee of the Scotch Church. After the minutes of the last two public meetings ..were :rea& and confirmed, some slight alterations were made in the bye laws affecting the conduct of officers of the institute. The list of, papers and periodicals received by the institute, as shown in the minute book, was presented and received. 1- :. In reply, to a question by Mr. C. W. Bishop, as to whether any machinery existed for -registering jthe.attendancejun the? .reading 'room* Mr! Readerstated that >the attendance had increased in 'the following ratio: — First week, average nightly attendance 2; . ; Third „ „ 5 '>'■ At the present time Jf 9 donations to the library and building fund, to the amount of about £12, were announced as having been received by the treasurer in reply to the printed circulars issued by the committee:
