THE CHURCH AT RANGIORA.

To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times. Sib,—The tattered canvass,'like signals of distress fluttering in the wind above the front windows of the Temporary Church at Rangiora, might have saved me the officious task of calling the attention of the inhabitants or their church-wardens to the singular appearance of the building at present. _ Some private individual, with the laudable intention, I suppose, of affording shelter from the sun and wind^to the zealous church-going people who could not find sittings in a crowded room, erected a temporary addition in front of the building, which, with its tightly stretched canvass roof, was not unsightly, and proved very useful during the hot summer months. A rude sou'wester lifted one corner of the said canvass about three months ago; and— -would you believe it?—-the rent has ever since grown larger. Not even a tack or a hammer could be procured in this out-of-the-way district to repair damages with, and now the place in which we meet to worship our Creator every Sunday, and where we teach our children.during the week, looks as if it only wanted the labour of a bill-sticker to complete its tumble-down appearance. Before any one is tempted to commit this sacrilege, mistaking it for an old shed, may I suggest to the proper authorities, now that the temporary shelter has served its purpose, to have it removed, and the the timber sold to defray the expense of demolition. I remain, sir, Yours, &c, „ . A LOVER OF ORDER. Rangiora, May 24, 1859.
