HORTICULTURAL SHOWS.
To the Editor of the Lyttelton Tunes.
Sir, —The public in Auckland as well as in Otago have had a treat this summer, which, doubtless, they are envied by many of our good, people in Canterbury. I refer to their "Fiorftland Horticultural Exhibitions." Now it seems to me very probable that if the nurserymen and some of the gardeners in this neighbourhood were to have a meeting just to talk over the subject, the result would be that, next summer, one or two Floral and Horticultural. Exhibitions might be held in tlie Town Hall, Christchurch, which would not only gratify and edify the public and stimulate all interested in the progress of general gardening, but let the neighbouring colonists see that there are men in Canterbury who intend to " go a-head" in that branch, in a manner worthy of the—will be—metropolis. \yiio knows but ere many years be passed the visitors to the Christchurch Exhibition will be envied, even by the visitors to the far-famed Chiswick. If you give this a corner in your useful paper, I hope it will meet the eye of some one more able to discuss the subject. I remain. Sir, Yours respectfully, . KALE RUNT. 20th April, 1859. . "
