The horses from the Reliance were landed on Sun* «■ day in Gollan's Bay, then only niue days out. Bci"? . from Van Diemen's Land, from which the importations'have been few but of very good quality, they ' excited some attention. There are twenty-three m all, some being brought down for private use. Tin* greater iiumber of them aye fine draught nwres ot » | stamp which this colony particularly requires, iui« J they are landed in excellent condition and without | loss. The remainder of the cargo of the Reliance consists of Van Diemen's Land timber for this. port. k> and a' general cargo of merchandize for Jacob » J| River, to which place she proceeds. i
I The Lion arrived on Sunday morning, the1 day I *fter the Reliance, thirteen days out from Sydney. I she has on board 62 horses, the same number with I ,vhich'she started, not having lost a single head. Tliev like the former cargoes in this smart little barque are the property of Mr. McClymont, who accompanied them, and whose credit as a judicious importer is much enhanced by the excellent state in which they have been landed, The arrangements of the vessel, and. the system upon which they are looked after on board by those who have charge of them, should form a model for any one who enters this line of business. By skilful management and the employment of experienced assistance, Mr. McClymont has in five cargoes, numbering over three hundred horses, lost but two head in all, and is now in a position to meet the market comfortably though prices may be falling. -The present cargo shows signs of having been carefully selected by the owner, to whom we wish success in his speculation. i, The Queen, screw steamer, arrived from Otago i yesterday afternoon, on her way to Wellington. During her stay in Otago, she has had her hull scraped and cleansed, and has undergone other repairs. She will sail for Wellington this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The Tamora, Bridie, from London, reached Port Chalmers on the Bth March, 104 days out, with a full cargo and a few passengers. ! The Peregrine Oliver, a barque of 400 tons, arrived 1 in Otago from Adelaide on the 12th instant, via the Bluff, with & lot of horses. The Free Trader from Geelong brought to Otago on the Bth instant 1600 sheep and 6 horses. The Pirate had arrived in Otago from Melbourne on the 13th inst. after a passage of less than seven days, bringing a fail complement of passengers, (49 in number) and a very valuable cargo, including horses and sheep. • She had her rigging and masts altered and repaired while in Melbourne. We: see by the Hobart Town papers that the Mariposa -was to .leave for this port soon after the Reliance, and the Amasis is also named as likely to •come down with timber from the same place. The Baven left .Sydney for this port before the Lion, but we have not been able to ascertain the ■precise day of her departure. The Ariel, brigantine, from this port, Feb. 19th, reached Sydney on the Ist March, having called at Taranaki on her way; and the Francis reached Sydney the following day having left this port also on the 19th u!t. The Susanne, brig, which sailed on the 22nd, had not arrived in Sydney on the sth instant, The whaling barque Runnymede arrived in port yesterday; she has been out 11 months and has secured 65 tuns sperm oil. Capt. Bayley reports the Sussex and Prince Regent off the coast of New Zealand on the Ist ult, the former with two sperm whales which yielded 10 tuns, and the latter with two black whales yieldingthe same amount. The Southern Cross was reported by the Sussex in latitude 50, and a brig in the Straits supposed to be the Jane.— Hobart Town Mercury, March 9.' VESSELS IN .PORT. Tons.
