The following- report of Mr. Bray to the Railway Commissioners has been forwarded, to us for publication :— ... To the Railway Commissioners of the Province of Canterbury. Gentlemen, —. At. yaur^iast meeting.l was entrusted with thepreparatioji::o£ a section of the ground along the proposed line of railway from Cookson's valley to the town of Christchurch. In accordance with this commission I took seve-. nil contour lines 'at intervals of 20 feet in thevicinity of the proposed tunnel mouth, and the general section for the mn»iirder of the lino, as also cross sections and cc ntour Jine» of Lee's spur. With incline* of I in 100 die .tuupel required is only 1$ miles long, but height of the -embank-, ments to reach the accessary elevation would be SO feet. ' ..;' ....'.' Another lino may be taken along Lee's spur alsa with 1 in, 100 inclines, and with only 13 feet embankmeuts, and part of tho way side cutting. But the seat of these embankments; being on the hillsides, with slopes varying from \ in 7 to 1 in 3, is objectionable, ; . - '
