By the present route, viz., by boat to Pigeon Bay, thence by land toDuvauchelle Bay, thence by boaf to Akaroa, or varying this latter part of the route, by land from Duvauchelle Bay to Akaroa. 2nd. From Lyttelton to Purao (or Rhodes's Bay), from Purao by the direct road to Duvauchelle Bay, thence to Akaroa by land or water. 3rd. To Purao and thence by landi .(a), by the usual foot track via Port Levy +o Pigeon Bay arid Akaroa. (b), to Purao' and thence across to Port Levy valley, proceeding up the valley into the Akaroa arid Purao direct road. If the route proposed be either from Purao direct, or from Purao to Port Levy and up the valley to the direct road:— Tenders must provide for: receipt and delivery of the Pigeon Bay mail on the journey either way between Akaroa and Lyttelton. It is believed that from the Akaroa.direct road the contractor could, without much loss of time, ■ branch off'to Pigeon Bay, or might arrange for a messenger to meet him at the junction of the Toads. An open bag to be taken up and delivered at Duvauchelle Bay, if required. No mail to exceed 40 pounds in weight. Three hours to be allowed after the delivery of a mail to the Postmaster for the return mail to be, -made The mail to start from Lyttelton every Wednesday, and from Akaroa every Tuesday. Tenders for this service must include the cost of conveyance of branch mails to and from Pigeon Bay, and must state the route proposed to be adopted and the spot at which the branch mails will join the main line. No mail to exceed 28 lbs. in weight. 5. CHRISTCHURCH AND TIMARU MAIL. "... Tenders will be received at this office until noon on Wednesday, the .2*3 rd day of March, 1859, for the'conveyance .of.'a mail fortnightly/ between Christehuroh and Timaru, for 12; months, from the Ist day of April, 1859.
