The opening of the new lodge of Oddfellows in connection with the Manchester Unity, at Akaroa, named the 'Good Intent' Lodge, took place at Mr. Gibbs's hotel, on Tuesday, the 4th instant. Brothers Gibbs and Gar wood were appointed respectively N.G. and 'V.G'.j and seven new members were-initiated into the mysteries, &c- After the business of the day the members ' feasted right well,' and wound up the evening with 'melody sweet.' The district officers attended, but business of various kinds unfortunately interfered to prevent the presence of any other visiting brethren, a circumstance which was very much regretted. The lodge nights will be every other Saturday, and the anniversary, New Year's Day. The Churchwardens of Lyttelton parish have been elected for the ensuing year. There are three, one appointed by the Incumbent and two elected by the parishioners. Mr. J?. Banks, Mr. J. M. Hey wood, and Dr. Donald have been returned,* the first named gentleman being, as last year, the choice of the Incumbent. The churchwardens' term of office has hitherto dated from-Easter, but, we believe at the Bishop's request tlie election has been transferredto the New Year.,,,

On Sunday last, the annual morning-'and evening collections were made in .Lyttelton .Church, after sermons, preached, in aid of the Melanesian missions. The sum collected, together.with a few subscriptions out of doors, amounts to about £22.
