Markets.

"We have commercial advices from Sydney to the 13th ult., which contain, by the aid of the telegraph, information from the other colonies of Australia to the .previous day. In Adelaide business was depressed, and the flour, and grain markets partook of the depression. Flour was quoted at £16 10s. Old wheat at 6s. lid.; new at 6s. 9d. .

In Melbourne flour was falling; Adelaide" brands were fetching £19. .

In Launceston, on the 9th, the tendency of the flour and grain markets was said to be upward. Wheat was scarce and in • demand at Bs.; oats ss. I-Od- to 6s. Flour £17 1 Os. to £18 per ton. In Holiart Town.tlie movement was also upwards: quotations of wheat were Bs. to Bs. 6d. JTlour, best quality, was quoted at £L 8 and £19 10s. The rise in Tasmania was entirely owing to a slight upward movement in Melbourne, which had occurred previously to the-depression noted above.

The following notice of the Sydney markets is from the summary of the,{Sydney Morning Herald' December 11th.:— ;.

Flour and Wheat.—Since the departure of the last mail the market has been firmer, but prices have.not advanced. American barrel flour has been sold at 40s. Chilian and colonial brands can only be sold in small quantities at present prices. Wheat is in moderate demand at 6s. 6d. to 7s. per bushel. Bran and maize have declined slightly, and sales of the former have been made at a reduction of 3d. to 4d. per bushel. Oats have advanced 15. to 20 per cent, on last month's prices. Barley is dull of sale. Messrs. Mort and Co.'s wool sale on the 9th Dec' is thus reported by the ' Herald:—The quantity of wool disposed of was about 400 bales, aad the prices obtained were considered satisfactory. The wool i market is/much firmer than it was at the commenceIment of fast month; smuT the disposition to purchase that has been evinced has caused an improvement of fully Id to'2d peril) on the prices quoted on the departure of the Emeu. The biddings to-day were spirited, and most of the lots realised full rates. Ten bales of wool, marked £0, scoured by Ebsworth and Co., brought 2s 3d. The following were the rates obtained for the lots sold;— Fleece I7£d to 23£ d, scoured 2s 3d, handwashed 15Vd to 2J?d grease 10£ dto 13d, locks 10£ dto 13Jd, New Zealand I2d to 17£ d. Sheepskins were in more request today, and are from Id to 2d per 1b higher than they were at the commencement of last month. About 6200 were sold, at from 8d to 10^d per Dji ' The Melbourne wool sales on the 9th are thus reported:—The weekly wool sales commenced,' as

usual, this morning. Messrs. Gbldsbrough and Co. offered about 1850 bales, of which, however, about 830 bales only were sold; there being but little disposition on the part of buyers to purchase scoured wools, the whole of which were bought in at full figures by the growers. Competition for fleece wools was well sustained, and any lots in superior condition fetched high rates. The quality of the wool offered was generally good, but the greater portion more or less heavy; the demand for greasy wools was rather easier, and although last week's pnees were sustained, there was no tendency to pay higher rates for this description. Greasy sold at from lof,d to Ityd, and fleece from IBd to 2lfd. A small lot (of 7 bales) coarse, bringing 16Jd per lb. A small lot of hides, well cured, brought 12a cd each.

The • Argus, 1 «f the 15th Dea, remarks as follows:—There have been two sales this week at •which an eager competition for fleece wools was manifested. Greasy wools were altogether neglected, and large parcels are being shipped by the growers. ; .
