Pro-paid or not according to the option of the sender. A uniform rate" according to tho following scale:— •vr . s- dJSot exceeding J oz. in weight 0 2 Exceeding £ oz. not exceeding 1 0z.... 0 4 And so on, increasing fourpence for every additional half-ounce or fraction of an ounce. FOREIGN LETTERS. All postage on letters addressed to places beyond the colony must be pre-paid. A uniform rate (except where otherwise herein specially provided) according to the following scale:— _ ■ ' s. d. Not exceeding £oz ... 0 G Exceeding,}-oz., not exceeding 1 oz. .. 1 0 And so on, increasing Is. for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. Letters sent to.or by seamen and soldiers in her Majesty's service or in the service of the East India Company,, will be transmitted within :the colony, and between, the colony and.any post-office in the British dominions, at a charge*of; one.ponny, provided tho following regulations are observed:— Ist. Each letter must not exceed £ oz. in weight. 2nd. It must be superscribed with the name of the writer, his description or class in the vessel or regiment, and signed by the officer at the time in command. . 3rd. The postage must be pre-paid. [Any letter of this description posted or received in the colony, not in accordance with the foregoing regulations, will be treated as an ordinary letter.] SPECIAL RATES' PAYABLE ON CERTAIN LETTERS, IN ADDITION TO THE ORDINARY RATE OP FOREIGN POSTAGE OP 6D. PER OUNCE. 1. I Via Marseilles to the United Kingdom. !•■■.. 8. d. Letters wider £oz 0 3 i oz. and imder %oz 0 6 And so on, increasing 3d. for every additional £ of an ounce, or fraction of a J of an ounce. 2. Letters addressed, to officers on board any of her Majesty's ships oil foreign stations, sent through the United Kingdom. s. d. Not. exceeding Joz 0 6 . Exceeding £ oz., not exceeding 1 0z.;.. I 0 And so on, increasing Is, for every additional ounce, or fraction of au ounce. 3. Letters, forwarded via the. United Kingdom to the undermentioned colonies and foreign countries.— [Here follows a list of places and rates too long for insertion, but which can be ascertained at the Post-office.] .4. Continent of Europe, via Trieste. Letters— ~ s. d. Not exceeding £oz I 0 Exceeding % oz., not exceeding 1 0z.... 2 0 Increasing 2s. for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. ; 5. Jerusalem, Bagdad, &c, via Alexandria and Jaffa. Letters— • s. d. Not exceeding \ oz. ... 0 5 Exceeding £- oz., not exceeding 1 0z.... 0 10 And so on, increasing tenpence for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce.
REGISTERED LETTERS. Uniform Registration Fee Is. besides the Postage ■ rate. An additional registration fee will be charged as hereunder specified for registered letters addressed to British Colonies or Foreign Countries intended to pass through the United Kingdom, (here follow the names of places with the fees chargeable—which can be ascertained at the Post Office). 7. LOOSE LETTERS. This class of letters to be charged according to two different rates: — Ist. Those letters which it is compulsory by law to send by post. 2nd. Those which it is not compulsory to send. Ist class will bear a charge according to the postage rate established by the above tables. 2nd class will bear a uniform charge of 2d. per i ounce. Newspapers— Posted in New Zealand for any other part of the Colony. Ist. Published in the colony, and posted -within seven days from the date of publication ;.. ... ... ... ... free. . 2nd. Not published in the colony, or not posted, within seven days from the date of publication (each prepaid)... Id. To England, via Southampton, or by ship direct ... ...... ...... free. „ „ via Marseilles (each) 3d. For transmission to the Continent of Europe, via Trieste (each) 2d. Newspapers— For Jerusalem, Bagdad, &c, via Alexandria and Jaffa. < Not exceeding 2 ozs Id. And so on Id. for every 2 ozs. * For Foreign countries or British possessions passing through the United Kingdom, various rates, to be ascertained at the Post Office. Book Packets— From one part of the colony to another, or to the United Kingdom via Southampton or Suez. Packet not exceeding 4 ozs. in weight 4d. Exceeding 4 ozs., not exceeding 8 ozs Bd. Exceeding 8 ozs., not exceeding 1 lb. Is 4d. And so on, increasing Bd. for every additional halfpound or fraction of half-a-pound.
