By his Honor's command, JOHN OLLIVIER, Provincial Secretary. Provincial Secretary V Office; Christchurch, Dec.*21,1857V :| IMMIGRATION REGULATIONS. All persons desirous of "-obtaining; assisted passages to the Province of Canterbury in vessel* under contract with the. Piovincisil Government, may receive assistance as follows: — 1. The Government" will afford assistance equal in amount to the sum paid in cash by the passenger. If there shall be any balance, the Government will' advance the 'sunn taking from the passenger promissory notes for th»* artiouvt advanced, payable to the Treasurer of the Province. Such notes; will be made payable on demand, but, unless the passenger dispute the debt, or shall attempt -to leave .the . Province, payment will only be required in sums of five pounds at a time, at, periods of three months, until the whole debt is discharged. The fi»>t payment to be made six mouths after landing. 2. Any persons resident in the Province desirous of assisting their friends in Kugland. or elsewhere, to obtain assisted pus sages to the Colony may do so by drawing a Bill to the order of the Provincial Treasurer, accented by a substantial householder, also resident in the Province, to be approved of by the-'^upermfeiidenf as sufficient security to the same ; this Bill may then betransmitted to the person who is desirous of emigrating to the Colony, and, being by him presented to the Immigration Agent, will lie received, iii lieii of cash payment, as hereinafter provided; the Bill will tie re-transmitted by the* Agent to the Colony, and must be paid immediately on presentation. 3. Assisted passages will be afforded only ■to bond fide labouring men. mechanics, and female domestic t-ervanis; but p»T>o'ns of all classes will be atle.lo.. uWisl their fiends to emigrate to the Colony by undertaking the payment of the whole of Ihe passage money in the manner above provided. 4.
