MELBOURNE.
The Emeu, with the English mails of Jnlv and August arrived in Hobson'a Bay on the" 10th
Oct. The Australasian, with the former month a mail, broke down soon after leaving Point de Galle, aud had to put into Trincomalee to repair her machinery, from which place her mail was brought forward by the Emeu. We subjoin the number of letters and newspapers received per royal mail steamer Emeu, on 10th inst—From General Post Office, London, 80 429 letters; 134,100 newspapers; from India, etc., 2935 letters, 3271 newspapers. Total letters, 83,364; total newspapers, 137,371. Thesereturns include 2450 registered letters.—Melbourne Herald. . _, „ .. The Jeanie Dove arrived in Melbourne on the 7th October, and the steamer Queen, having Dr. Evans and the Superintendent of Wellington on board, arrived there on the 9th. _
