TUELBOCEinE. The flour market has been steady daring the . snonth, and prices -have changed but little^ the ■demand has "been good, but the imports from Adelaide, where the stock was larger than given out, have more than kept pace'with it. Town- ■ milled flour is selling at £20, and town brands -of Adelaide, at .£l9 to £19 10s., whilst country •'-brands bring £18 10s. Wheat sells pretty readily at 8s 3d. to Bs. (3d. Malt remains very • much depressed, and whilst no quotation can be .given for inferior samples, the best only brings wlOs. Oats receded after the departure of last ' mail to 4s. 3d.; strong buyers thenxjame into the market and caused prices to advance again to 4s. 9d , but-the'July shipments "have had a very •unfavourable effect, -and the, present value is * -about 4s. 6d. for Scotch. The import market continues very inactive, Hhe amount of transactions being of inconsiderable extent. The auction sales also have been ..unimportant. Messrs. Easey and Co.-offered a parcel of about 2,000 half-chests black tea, the smaller portion only of which.was disposed of, low to ordinary congous bringing £3 12s. 6d. to £4 9s. T/.SMASIA.
Trom Launceston we have intelligence to the 20th instant. The 'Cornwall Chronicle' of that date has the following report:—
.7 Our present rates are but slightly changed since last week. Wheat is still in demand at 7s. to 7s. 3d. per bushel, and occasionally a higher figure is paid for delivery on board. Oats rejnain at ss. 3d. to ss. 6d., with very few large transactions in the article, the principal business •done, being in small parcels for home consumption. Flour remains steady .at £16 ss. to £16 10s. per ton. . Bran, Is. Bd. to Is. 9d. per bushel. The supply of potatoes last week being considerably in excess of the demand, the price declined from £10 to £7 10s., at which to £8 per ton they now remain.
The SuctuatiOßS in the value of wheat have been very trifling for some time. Quotations -opened rather firmer at the commencement of the week, and have continued so at 7s. 9d. to Bs. -3d. per bushel, the latter figure being obtained without difficulty for very good samples. Nothing is doing in oats, and while such large quantities continue to pour into the Melbourne market 310 improvement can be expected; colonial are quoted at ss. 3d. .£6 ss. 9d. English barley' has again fallen, the demand being very slack; the last saies reported were made,at7s. - Hay has undergone no change whatever? loose hay moves off slowly at £6 10s. to £8 per ton, according to quality, and country-pressed remains at £6 10s. to £1 10s. The inquiry for potatoes has been but trifling during the week, an 1 prices gradually declined; on the receipt of advices from "Melbourne this morning, a further decline took place, and £8 to £8 10s. are now given as the ruling quotations.— Hobart Town Mercitry, Oct. 18.
