HUGHES & RONALD'S LIVERPOOL MONTHLY WOOL REPORT.

July .31

The wool trade has pursued a steady course during the month, the prices have been well maintained, without any advantage generally having, been established ; at the same time the tendency is still in favour of sellers. The present position of affairs is altogether satisfactory; there is full employment and we are happy, to "be., able to add that "even the enhanced cost of the raw material is not unremunerative to the consumer, ■white those who had foresight enough to purchase before the rise are making handsome ", profits. On yarns a.considerable advance is being freely paid, and accumulating stocks have been entirely cleared out, but other departments of the trade have not participated in the same improvement. The German export Houses have operated. freely, and the Frankfort fair having gone off well isgerieirally considered a sure indication that at the Eeipsig fair there will be a considerable demand for woollen goods. .

The London public sales of fine colonial wools commenced on the 15th inst.,'and will continue till the 27th proximo. Buyers do not seem at all appalled by the large quantity to be offered, which will be little short of 80,000 bales, and hitherto the sales have proceeded with animation, the home trade contributing the chief support. The advance from the closing rates of tlie previous series is Id. to 2d. per lb., being the greatest on Cape, of which the supply is small. Within the last few days they have assumed rather a flatter tone, but this applies chiefly to heavy and faulty descriptions, while good and current qualities ai^ selling as high as at any time since the commencement ; These sales, from their magnitude, have been regarded with particular interest, and the result cannot fail to exercise a material influence on the trade.
