The steamer White Swan left this port for Otago via Tiraaru on the evening of Thursday, the 14th instant. Meeting a heavy sou-wester she was unable to discharge her cargo at the latter place, and went on to Otago, which she reached on Friday night, and remained there till Monday at 6 p.m. On her way back she called on Tuesday morning at Timaru, landed there 50 tons of goods besides passengers, and left again at 8 o'clock the same evening. The very heavy gale which blew along the coast the following day forced her, being short of coal, to put in to Akaroa, where she lay from 2 p.m. on
