PUBLIC NOTICE. PROVINCE OF CANTERBURY TO WIT : PORT VICTORIA DISTRICT. WHEREAS a Writ under the hand of William Sefton Moorhouse, Esq., Superintendent of the said Province, bearing date the 12th day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight, hath been directed to me, Frederick Noble Campbell, Esq., as Returning Officer for the Port Victoria District, in the said Province, " requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by and from the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, one person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the Port Victoria District, in place of Mark Sproi, Esq., resigned. Now, therefore, I, the sail Frederick Noble Campbell, Returning Officer for the said District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice, that a public meeting of the electors of the said District will be holden at tbe Town Hall, Lyttelton, on Friday, the 29th day of October inst., at noon, for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the said District, and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Saturday, the 30th day of October inst., at the Police Office, Lyttelton.
