The Customs entries for the quarter ended tW 30th ult., show the following totals. The value of imports has been during the three months from Great Britain, £25,314, from New Sontll Wales, £18,077, from Victoria, £3,834 from Hobart Town, £1,452. Total, £48,677.' The duties received on goods imported during the quarter have amounted to £2,632 17s. 2d- on goods ex warehouse, £2,732 4s. 6d." total revenue, £5,365 Is. Bd.—being £643 13s. iod less than for the previous quarter. The Exports for the three months have been valued as tollows:—To N. S. Wales, wheat£ll7l barley £151, oats £672, wool £1,510, tallow £139' potatoes £1,390, cheese £109, hides and skins £124, whalebone £200, oil £570. Total £6,036 To Victoria, oats £1,210, barley £45, cheese £263 155., potatoes £350, curiosities, £10. Total £1,878 153. Total exports foreign £7.914 15s. The above returns of Imports and Exports for the quarter do not take into account goods received and sent coastwise.
The shipping returns for the quarter show the following number of arrivals:—Erom Great Britain. 2 vessels, 1830 tons, from Sydney 3 vessels, 448 tons, from Melbourne 2 vessels, 187 tons, from Tasmania 2 vessels, 367 tons, elsewhere (foreign), 1 vessel, 134 tons, Coastwise, 28 vessels, 2,490 tons. Total, 37 vessels, 5,456 tons. Departures,—New South Wales 5 vessels, 1,543 tons, Victoria 1 vessel, 127' tons, Coastwise 24 vessels, 2,677 tons. Total, 30 vessels, 4,347 tons.
The timber which is required for the construction of the extended Jetty in Lyttelton, arrived in the Matador some time ago from Hobart Town, and is now being landed. As soon as the whole is on shore, the work of extension will be commenced, and the jetty will be closed fora short time.
Another vacancy in the Provincial Council is announced, arising from Mr. Sprot's resignation of his seat for the Port Victoria District. Mr. Potts, of Governor's Bay, is named as likely to offer himself as a candidate to succeed Mr. Sprot.
This day, at noon, the nomination of candidates to serve in the Provincial Council for the Town of Lyttelton, for the seat vacated by Mr. Waitt, takes place at the Town Hall.
