PUBLIC NOTICE. A Special Meeting- of Justices of the Peace will be held at the Resident Magistrate's Court, in Lyttelton, on Monday, the Sixth day of September next, at 11 o'clock, a.m., and at the Resident Magistrate's Court, at Christchurch, on Tuesday the Seventh day of September next, at 11 o'clock, a.m., for the purpose of granting Slaughter House Licenses, for the ensuing year. Persons desirous of obtaining Licenses are reminded that they must forward to the Clerk of the Bench, ten days before the above meeting, notice of their intention to apply for a License, and with such notice a description of the place intended to be licensed. THE Provincial Government are prepared to receive tenders for the supply^ of three hundred thousand feet of sawn planking, to be delivered at the Government yard, Christchurch, in quantities of not less than twenty thousand feet. . ,- The timber is to be either kauri pine, red gum, blue gum, stringy bark, black pine, or totara ; and must be approved hy the Provincial '-Engineer. .;-..* The whole to he cut in lengths of 16 feet 8 inches, and to measure 8 inches by 3 inches, full cut. IN consequence of tbe continuance of bad weather, the Final ClearingSale will be postponed for a few days. Due notice will be given. ROBERT WAITT & CO. RANGITATA FERRY. THE Provincial Government are prepared to receive applications from persons desirous of occupying the above Ferry on the following conditions:— The contractor to build a house of accommo* dation on the Ferry Reserve, on the north hank of the river; to provide beds for at least six travellers,. and shelter for six horses; to erect suitable stockyard and sheepyard, and keep the. premises in good and ,tenantable repair; to provide a horse, and to'be ready at all reasonable times to convey passengers across the river on horseback, at a charge of 2s. 6d. each, to direct drays, and if required, to accompany them, at a charge of 2s. 6d. each ;'■' and to erect and maintain a flag-pole, 40 feet high, and keep a flag flying daily, from sunrise to sunset, on the terrace immediately above the house, so as to indicate the position of the Ford to parties coming from the northward. The Government will grant the free use of the two reserves of 100 acres each, for a period of three years, if the conditional license for the house is retained so long; and will undertake to renew the tenancy for a further period "of three years, on similar terms. And a license will be granted to cut timber on the Government Reserve in Talbot Forest, for the house, yards, and fencing, and firewood, for the first three years, free of charge. The Superintendent will grant a conditional license free of charge, for the year ending 30th June, 1859, after which time, application for its renewal must be made to the Bench of Magistrates, in accordance with the Public House Ordinance. Any further information maybe obtained at this office. Applications must he sent in within one month from this date, and be accompanied by testimonials of the fitness of applicants.
