OTAGO.

By the -White Swan we have Otago papers to the I7th\ instant, but they are more than unusually devoid of interest. Throughout the whole files we do not find a sing-le paragraph of sufficient interest to justify its quotation. The Three Bells from Glasgow arrived with 297 immigrants on the 13th hist., after a long but tolerably fair voyage, having left Glasgow on the 17th March. There were four deaths (two adults and two children), and three births during the passage. The Thomas and Henry from Melbourne arrived on the loth inst. It is not mentioned on what date she left Melbourne, nor do the papers give any Australiau news beyond the markets. Those of Sydney are not later than our own, but Melbourne prices are quoted to the 25th ult., eleven days later than our Victorian news, and will be found elsewhere. In speaking of the arrival there of the White Swan, the ' Witness,' of the 17th inst., says:— "Her owner sails with her, and he is exceedingly anxious to test the merits of New Zealand coal. With this object he has been using some from Nelson. We understand that several specimens of the Molyneux coal have been shewn to him, and he has expressed a very favorable opinion of its quality so much so, that the Government have determined to get up a few tons from Coal Point, in time for the White Swan on her next trip, so as to test its value as a fuel for steamers, in which, should --itrealise .our anticipations, we nave no doubt but that tho seam will be effectually worked."
