All persons desirous of obtaining assisted .passages to the Province' of Canterbury j in,, ;ves6els under contract with the' Provincial' (Government, may receive assistance {as follows: — j 1. The' Government will afforc 1 assistance equal in amount to the sum paid in cash by .the' passenger. If " there shall be any balance, the Government will iadvance' the sum, taking from the passenger-ipromissqry notes for the amount advanced,, payable jto the1 Treasurer of the Province. "Such notes will t be made payable on demand, bu,t, uriltjss, the J passenger dispute' the debt, m*"shfcl] attempt to leave the Proiince, payjiient -will, only be -required in suras of five, pounds. at a time, at periods of three mouths, until' the whole, debt is discharged. The , finst' 'payment to be made six 1 months after ' landing.-, ' ' ' ' j 2. Any persons resident in'the Province" desirous'-'of'assisting their-friends in England, or elsewhere; to obtain assisted ~paisages to the Colony may do so by drawing' a J Bill to the order of the Provincial Treasurer, accepted by a substantial householder, also resident in, the Province, to be J approved of by the Superintendent as sufficient security to-dhe same ; this Bill maiy then be transmitted to the person who is desirous of emigrating to the Colony,' and, being by him presented to the Emigration Agent, will be received in lieu of cash payment, as hereinafter provided: the Bill will be re-transmitted by the Agent to thje i Colony, and must be paid immediately on ! presentation. . j I 3. Assisted passages will be afforded only to bondjlde labouring men, mechanics, and female domestic seivants; but persons of! all classes will be able to assist their friend's ', to emigrate to the Colony by undertaking j the payment of the whole of the passage | money in the manner above' provided. ' 4. No person will ' * ujwed any assistance unless he shall hay oeen approved of j by the Emigration Agent in England. No [ single man.above the age of 40 years, no J pel^on above the age of 50, unless a member I of a large family ;j and no person above 60 : • years, under any circumstances,' will be { allowed assistance. • i J 5 When bills are tendered inpayment as cash in England, the amount of assistance \ gi\en by the Government will be One-half i of I lie amount of Bills. 'Persona'therefore! wishing to give their friends in .England the1 utmost amount of assistance must give 'bills for two-thirds of the whole amuunt of the passage money. 6. The Provincial Government are : unable at present to state what the rate of passage money to the Colony will be fixed ;i but all.bills will, be prepared on the supposition that it will.amount'to £20, should it'j ,be less, a propoitional part of therbills will1 be remitted at the time of ■re-payment. 7.
