The Lyttelton Times. Saturday, June 12th.

His Honor the Superintendent having sailed for Auckland, to take his seat in the House of Representatives as member for Akaroa, Mr. Bbwen, the Speaker of the Provincial Council takes his place by proclamation under His Honor's hand. The Speaker having had some experience in the office of Deputy-Superintendent during the interregnum between the departure of Mr. FitzGerald for England and the election of his successor, it is hoped that no public inconvenience will ensue upon the temporary absence of the: Superintendent. There is great reason to fear that before Messrs. Moorhouse and Ward can take their seats the principal business of the session will have been completed. There is a chance, however, of their arriving in time to do good service to the South, by their votes on some questions of great importance to us, which were to be brought on late in the session.

Apart from their duties as simple mem-, bers of the House of Representatives, it was considered advisable at Auckland, that as many of the Superintendents of Provinces as possible should be present during* this sessions/At a time when great changes are contemplated in the management of public business, and especially in the relations between the General and Provincial Grovernments, it is obvious that the presence of the heads of the latter Goverments at Auckland would greatly facilitate a proper understanding between authorities which are too often conflicting. - It is for. this reason that, notwithstanding the manifest inconvenience of His Honor's absence from the Province, for however short a time, we agree with the Government in considering his attendance at Auckland the lesser of two evils.
