I trust also, that ithe insight into official matters, which as clerk to the last Council I could not fail to obtain, will have served as a training to rendemore efficient the services which it is my am bition to place at your disposal. WHEREAS a Writ under the hand of William Seffcon Moorhouse, Esq., Superintendent of the said Province, bearing date the eighth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight, hath been directed to me, John Watson, Esq., as Returning Officer for the Akaroa District, in the said Province, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by and from the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, one person to serve as a member of of the Provincial Council for the Akaroa District, in place of Thomas Smith Duncan, Esq., resigned. Now, therefore, I, the said John Watson^ Esq., Returning Officer for the Akaroa District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that a public meeting of the electors of the Akaroa District will be holden in the Court House, in the Town of Akaroa, on THURSDAY, the tenth day of June next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council, for the Akaroa District, and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidotes or any of them, such polling shall take place on Friday, the eleventh day of June next, in the Court House at Akaroa, in the School House at Pigeon Bay, and in the School House at Okain's Bay.
