OTAGO.

By the arrival of the " Henry " we are in possession of Otago papers to the 4th inst. The nomination of a member for the General Assembly was to take place on the 15th, and polling (if any) on the 16th inst. No candidate had yet come forward, neither had any requisitions been presented; but Mr. Taylor, of Jacob's River, was spoken of, and urgently.recommended by the '• Colonist. " The Swan remained to bring the member, after the election, to Auckland. The.Strathallan sailed for London on the 25th ult., with 780 bales of wool, valued at £19,010 13s. This was the first direct shipment from Otago to Britain; and the charterers are stated to have sustained thereby a very heavy loss. The Captain of the Strathfieldsaye had been committed for trial on a charge of firing a revolver at random amongst his passengers, and thereby wounding his second mate. He was allowed to be at large on bail, himself in £500, and two sureties in £100----each ; and absconded on board the Strathallan. Another captain was appointed to take command of the Strathfieldsaye, but the crew had all deserted, and were sentenced to three months' hard labour.
