Barley at ss. 6d. There seems reason to believe, however, that the demand for wheat will prove greater than has been anticipated, and that prices will improve in proportion. The market for timber remains steady, though cargoes from various ports have been somewhat in competition with one another. Miles' Kington and Co., during last week, the cargo of the Spray from Auckland ; a good specification -of kauri boards ana scantling fetched 28s and •295. Mr. Alport sola also, at Christchurch Quay on ,TWs«li»y hi*t *> flic same firm, a small bat choice loi.<ff v , vM -..,., Trttaraboards and scantling the canr oor the Ivnerald from Wellington, and the.picxluce, we believe; of Manawata. This lot :excited competition and fetched 28s. ;
