Tne arrival of the English mail places it out of our power to report as fully as we were otherwise prepared to do the meeting held on Thursday evening in Christchurch to organise a system of collecting subscriptions for the relief of the sufferers by the Indian mutiny. The resolutions adopted, the subcriptions received in the room itself, amounting to upwards of £180, and the general committee appointed, will be found in our advertising columns. . The committee was hastily constructed, and is intended to embrace all districts of the province, and for each a sub-committee will be formed of the residents. All the clergy are placed upon the general committee, and it was understood to be left with them to summon and preside over the sub-committees in their own districts. The principal speakers at the meeeting were his Honor the Superintendent, the Bishop of Christchurch, the Archdeacon of Akaroa, Messrs. Ollivier, Tancred, and Packer.
