The mail to arrive at Akaroa from Okain s Bay every Friday, and to return to Okam s Bay not later than the Saturday forenoon following. No Mail to exceed 2S pounds in weight. 6. CHRISTCHURCH & TIMARU MAIL. Tenders will be received at this office until noon, on Thursday, the loth day of April next, for the conveyance of a mail fortnightly betwen Christchurch and Timaru for 11 months from the Ist day of May, 1858. The tenders to state separately the charges ot conveyance, if— , , . (1) The mail to start from Christchurch every alternate Wednesday at noon, commencing on the first Wednesday in May, and from Timaru on the following Wednesday, weather permitting. . (2) Or, to return from Timaru not later than twenty-four hours after arrival there. Except owing to unavoidable accident the mail not to be more than three days in summer and four days in winter on the route ; (summer months to be considered from Ist day of November, to the 31st day of March; winter, Ist day of April, to 31st day of October. No mail will exceed forty pounds in weight. GENEBAL CONDITIONS. Contractors will not be albwed to take up at any place within I mile of a Post office letters or newspapers for delivery on the roadside without having them taxed at the office, and in like manner will not be allowed to deliver within 1. mile of any Post office letters or newspapers taken up on the way previous to their being taxed. But letters and newspapers may be ? carried "by the contractors between^ places along the road which are more than a mile distant from the post office. _ Contractors must undertake to receive and deliver letter bags at such houses or places along the road as may be desired by the postmasters. Contractors will be bound to proceed with mails without, any undue delay or.stoppage on the road after the hour of departing from the Post office. The Postmaster to have the option at any time of delaying the carrier for half-an -hour after the usual hour for the departure of the mail. . Contractors will have to find Sureties for the performance of then- respective contracts. Penalties for breach of contract will be eh-, forced as well by deductions from the amounts due to contractors as also by putting their bonds in suit. ... .Tenders will" be received for either service separately, or for two or more services together.
