PUBLIC .NOTICE. ; > CONVEYANCE OF MAILS. j 1. CHRISTCHURCR AND LYTTELTON MAIL. i TENDERS will be received nt this office until noon on TUESDAY, the 23rd day of March, instant, for the conveyance of a mail between Lyttelton and Christehurch, and ' the delivery of letters daily, for 12 months-from the Ist April, 1858. The mail to start from Christehurch daily (except on Sundays) at 9 o'clock, ;a.m., conveying letters and Post Office parcels, and newspapers for delivery at the Post Office, Lyttelton, and an open bag containing letters and newspapers for delivery to persons living on the road side along the line of route. Another mail to start from Lyttelton daily (except on Sundays) at 3 o'clock, p.m., conveying letters and newspapers for delivery at the Post Office, Christehurch, and an open bag containing letters and newspapers for delivery to persons living on theroad side along the line of route. Twelve mails are expected.yearly from England via Australia. The contractor to undertake to convey any such mail or any colonial mail brought by steamers to Port Lyttelton out to Christehurch, to start whenever required, at any time between the hours of 6 o'clock. a.m. and 8 o'clock p.m.. from Lyttelton. Tenders must state whether it is proposed to carry the mail by the Sumner Road or by the Bridle Path. All letters and paper*-to be- delivered on the daythevare received, either at the respective Post Offices, or at the residences either in Lyttelton or Chnstchurch, of the persons to whom they are addressed. This delivery to include all letters and news- : papers from other Post Offices, handed by the postmaster to the contractor. ; 2. CHRISTCHURCH-AND KAIAPOI MAIL. Tenders will be received at this office until < noon on.Tuesday, the 23rd day of March, inst., for the conveyance of a mail between Christ-" church and Kaiapbr twice a -week for 12 months - from the first day of April, 1858. The mail to start from Christehurch on Mondays and Thursdays, and from Kaiapoi on Tuesdays and Fridays at 12 o'clock. 3. KAIAPOI AND RANGIORA MAIL. Tenders will he received at this office .until' noon on Thursday, the loth day of April 1858, for the conveyance of mails between Kaiapoi. and Rangiora twice a week for 11 months from the Ist day of May, 185 S. •■ Mails to start from Kaiapoi on Mondays and Thursdays, half an hour after the arrival-of the mail from Christehurch, and from Rangiora on TtiesSafs'arid Fridays, so as to reach Kaiapoi by 11.30 a.ea. 4. LYTTELTON AND AKAROA MAIL. Tenders will be received at this-office until. noon on Tuesdaj-, the 23rd day of March, for the conveyance of a mail weekly between Lyfc telton and Akaroa for 12 months from the Ist day of April, 1858, by one of the following routes: Ist. By the present route, viz., hy boat to Pigeon Bay, thence by land to Duvauchelle Bay, thence by boat to Aknroa; or varying this latter part of the route, by land from Duvauchelle Bay to Akaroa. 2nd. From Lj'ttelton to Purao (or Rhodes Bar), from Purao by the direct road to Duvaucheile Bay, thence to Akaroa by land or water. 3rd. To Purao and thence by land : ,' ■ (a), by the usual foot track via Port Levy to Pigeon Bay and Akaroa. (b), to Purau and thence across to Port Levy valley, proceeding up the valley into the Akaroa . and Purau direct road. If the route proposed be either from Purao direct or from Purao to Port Levy and up the valley to the direct road :— Tendei s must provide for receipt and delivery of the Pigeon Bay mail on the journey either way between Akaroa and Lyttelton. It is believed that from the Akaroa direct read the contractor could, without much loss of time, branch off to Pigeon Bay, or might arrange for a messenger to meet him at the junction of the roads. An open bag to be taken up and delivered at Duvauchelle Bay, if required. No mail to exceed 40 pounds in weight. ■ In any contract for conveying the wails by boat via Pigeon Bay, it will be required that the contractors undertake frcm and after the Ist day of November, 1858, to convey the mail from Purau by the Akaroa direct road upon one month's previous notice given by the Postmaster requiring him so to do. If the contractor decline to carry the mail by this route his contract to expire on the 3Lst day of December, 1858. „ Three hours to be allowed after the delivery f of a mail to the Postmaster for the return mail to be made up. The mail to start from Lyttelton every Wednesday and from Akaroa every Tuesday. Tenders for this service must include the cost of conveyance of brancli mails to and from Pigeon Bay. and must state the route proposed to bo adopted and the spot at which the branch mails will join the main line. 5. AKAROA & OKAIN'S BAY MAIL. Tenders will be received at this Office until noon on Thursday the 15th day of April next, for the conveyance of a mail weekly between Akaroa and Okain's Bay for 11 months from the Ist day of May, 1858.
