Local Intelligence.
His Honor Mr. Justice Gyesson was to leave Nelson for Canterbury, overland, on Saturday or Monday last, and may therefore be expected soon. Monday, March the Bth, will probably be named as the day -when the Session of the Supreme Court will be opened in Lyttelton. By the late mail letters have been received from Auckland conveying the information that a vessel will be provided to sail from this port for Auckland direct on the 20th proximo • and Members of the Legislative Council and of the House of Representatives are directed to hold themselves in readiness for that day. The Collector of Customs is authorised to see that the arrangements are properly carried out. The local steamer Planet will have completed the necessary alterations, and be ready for her first trip, probably to Kaiapoi, about Monday week. The fares for passengers are fixed at a very low .rate. The harvest continues under circumstances not at all encouraging to the farmer. The high price of labour has not been reduced, indeed has rather moved in the opposite direction during the past week. The Roehampton is eagerly looked for to supply ni C av/iucu^, „„<! uS,»«I port that she had arrived, when the Matador was •signalled on Tuesday evening, was hailed with .great satisfaction on the plains. That vessel has still to come. Probableprices of wheat add to the discouragement, and no steps have been taken to remove the fears which have been entertained on this head. The abundance of every crop is the most encouraging point; but we regret to say that the high winds which have prevailed for a few days since the harvest commenced have inflicted some little; loss. Altogether, our agricultural position is not brilliant. The Salopian arrived yesterday afternoon from Wellington, which port she left on Tuesday. The English mail had not arrived, and there is no news of consequence in the Wellington papers of the previous Saturday. Captain Bain reports that the Alexander,' a New Bedford whaler, had been wrecked off Cape Campbell. She had 1,300 barrels of sperm on board. There was no loss of life. GAZETTES.
