NELSON.

From this province we have one later paper, the 'Examiner 5 of the 6th instant, Vvhich contains the following- paragraph:— The Gold Fields.—The accounts from the gold fields are more satisfactory. Eroni the Boulder River we hear, upon good authority, of two men who weut to work, and obtained in the first two hours about 1^ ozs. of gold. Some large parcels of gold have arrived in town within the last few days, including a very fine sample of upwards of 40 ozs., which was brought overland from the Takaka. We have just seen a letter from Mr. Washbourne, dated Slate River, Feb. 3, wherein that gentleman states; —" I had intended being in Nelson in a fortnight or three weeks in any case, but just at the present time I find my wishes, that I have tried so long and so perseveringly for, just about being realised—that is good and substantial gald fields being discovered quite through the valley. *■ * Our prospects here are brightening; the Boulder River is looking Well. Batchelor will show you a sample of the gold found—in good payable quantities. Salisbury's, and another Creek or two above, are also turning out well; but nothing but the iast efforts of our persevering friends proved it— r in fact, we were on our last legs. Why do you not stir up our Government to give us roads, and so profitably to keep our population here? Surely the vastly increased export value should be worth attention. The gold is no myth." ; !! 1
