TO SURVEYORS. fTHENDERS are invited for a survey of -i- the country situate between the rivers Rakaia and Ashburton, for the purpose of dehrnng the boundaries of the pasturage runs. Sealed tenders addressed to the Chief Surveyor (endorsed "tender for Rakaia Survey") to be left at the Land Office, Ghristchurch, by noon, on Saturday, 20th February, 1858. Also, tenders for a survey of the country between the rivers Rangitata and Waitangi for a similar purpose. . Sealed tenders addressed to the Chief Surveyor (endorsed "tender for Waifengi survey") to be left at the Land Office, Christchurch, by noon, on Wednesday, 31st March, 1858. THE Proviricial Government are prepared to. receive Tenders for the purchase of " The French Magazine Reserve," situate in Lavand Street, Akaroa, and the buildings thereon. ; .The area of the Reserve is Oa. lr. 12p. or thereabouts, and the buildings are constructed of substantial materials. All tenders must be in writing, addressed to ther Provincial Secretary, and must state the amount the applicant is prepared to give for the property. If the sum" offered in any tender be deemed sufficient by the Government, the premises will be put up.to auction, pursuant to the Ordinance. • Two months notice of the time and place of sale will be given. IMMIGRATION REGULATIONS. : AlLpersons desirous of obtaining-assisted 'passages to the Province of Canterbury in vessels under contract with the Provincial Government, may receive assistance as follows: — _ 1. The Government will afforc? assistance j equal in amount to the sum paid in cash by ! the, passenger. If there shajl be any! balance, the. Government will advance the! sura, taking from the passenger promissory j notes for the amount advanced, payable to | the Treasurer of the Province. Such notes ! will be made payable on demand, but, unless the passenger dispute the debt, or shall . attempt to leave the Province, payment! will only be required in sums of five pounds ! at a time, at periods of three months, until ] the whole debt' is discharged. The first payment to be made six months after i landing. 2. Any persons resident in the Province desirous of assisting their friends in England, or elsewhere, to obtain assisted pas- j sages to the Colony may do so by drawing a Bill to the, order' of the Provincial Treasurer, accepted by a substantial householder, also resident in" the Province, to be approved of by the Superintendent as sufficient security to the same ; this Bill may then be transmitted to the person who is desirous of emigrating to the Colony, and, being by him presented to the Emigration Ageut, will be received in lieu of cash payment, as hereinafter provided ; the Bill Will be re-transmitted by the Agent to the Colony, and must be paid immediately on presentation. 3. Assisted passages will be afforded only to bon&Jide labouring men, mechanics, and female domestic servants; but persons of all classes will be able to assist their friends to emigrate to the Colony by undertaking the payment of the whole of the passage money in the manner above provided4. No person will be allowed any assistance unless he shall have been approved of by the Emigration Agent in England. No single man above the age of 40 years, no person above the age of 50, unless a member of a large family ; and no person above 60
