Wednesday, February 17. Wakted, a "leader" for the" Lyttelton Times;" Not wordy diatribes on human crimes, Nor party corrupt or wild; Nor maudlin sentiment, nor twaddle mild As milk and water, and as muddy too: Such stuff we hate as all our readers do. We are wanting something to move the heart, At once bright and fervent, pungent and smart, On things of interest to great and small, Shadowing and shielding the rights of all, Removing the wrongs in our social plan, Battling for justice 'twixt man and man. Wanted a " leader" to check every eviL Start not! 'Tis the want of THE PRINTER'S DEVIL.* * The Printer of the "Times" waiting for a 41 leader" to the last hour of going to press, and none coming to hand, the " fiend" of the establishment tempted him with the above doggrel. Some apology may be necessary, not only to the readers of the paper, but also to the gentleman who so ably fills the editorial chair, for allowing young Satan to usurp the seat of honour. The printer can only hope that all parties may be uninjured by this shaft of " the evil one."
