To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times. Sin, —My attention has only to-day been directed to the letter of " Layman," in your impression of Feb. 6th. Will you allow me, through the same medium, to request that the writer will be pleased to state, distinctly and in his own name, what he means by "the local and separatist views of the inhabitants of Avonside, on the subject of raising a private clergy fund of their own;" on what occasion " the Bishop of New Zealand objected ." to these views, and when and where " they pressed their opinions on his Lordship?'' I am, Mr. Editor, yours, See., CHARLES MACKIE, Incumbent of Avonside. Stricklands, 9th Feb., 1858.
