Owing to the irregularity with which we have received intelligence from Sydney of late, we find that one or two interesting matters have gone without notice. In the 'Sydney Morning Herald/ of Nov. 9th, will he found an interesting account of this settlement, published originally, it would appear, in pamphlet form, under the authority of the Provincial Government. It is no doubt from the pen of Mr. Pitz Gerald, and, we need scarcely add, is well done, Though short it is full of facts and yet not meagre; nor is there any mere ealogism, while all the inviting features of the settlement are done-full justice to. The customary statements of the revenue collected for the quarter ended December 31st, and for the year 1857, in comparison with the results for the corresponding quarter of previous years, and for the whole year 1856, were published yesterday, under the hand of the Colonial Treasurer. The total revenue for the past quarter is £288,739 35., against £314,014 Bd. for the corresponding quarter of 1856, shewing a decrease on the quarter of £25,274 17s, Bd. The total ninonnt of revenue for the past year is £1,196,301 Os. Bd. against £1,158,468 16s. Bd.

for the year 1856, showing a total increase on the year of £37,832 4s. It will thus be seen that the progress made during the first nine monthß has been reduced by nearly one-half by the result of the last quarter.— Empire, Jan. 6.
