VICTORIA.

We have intelligence from Melbourne to the 17th ult. The labours of the Legislature were nearly brought to a closo. The Long Paeliament. —Pai'liament is still in its first session—the Parliament which met in November of last year, and which is still sitting after a month's adjournment in November of the present year. It is now entitled to the name of the " Long Parliament." The following paragraph appears in the ' Herald' of the 14th ult:—" We are glad that prior to the departure of the English mail, we are enabled to publish such good news as is contained in the following report of Messrs. Clarke and Sons:—' We have/ say those, gentlemen, cto report the arrival in town of one of the finest nuggets that have been discovered in Victoria—a mass of nearly solid gold, of 1743 ounces, from the celebrated lead of Kipgower nuggets- This nugget is of exactly the same appearance as those from Kingower, ; which have at intervals during the last twelve months made their appearance at Clarke's gold office, -and in fact has been found within a fewyards of the spot 'where the first one was taken

This extraordinary lead of nuggets has mow .produced mpwards of 10^000 ounces of gold. The fortunate finders are four in number —two ;pairs of brothers, respectively named Ambrose, and two Napier. It was discovered •thirteen feet from the surface, on the 27th August last.1 " According to the " Herald," " the AttorneyfGreneral's Education Bill is likely to prove a regular bone of contention during the next session of Parliament. Already some of the religious denominations are up in arms against it, and by the time it comes on for a second reading, there will be a powerful opposition to prevent its passing into law. The AttorneyGreneralis most unfortunate with his measures, many of which, indeed, seem to be fabricated by others, who make a sort of political catspaw of the learned gentleman."
