The mail packet Marchioness, with the Sept. mails for the Southern provinces, arrived in Wellington on the 27th, November,, after a run of 12 days from Melbourne. The barque Gleaner, 485 tons, Capt. Pentecost, arrived in Wellington on the 19th ult., with 6 cabin and 172 steerage passengers, some under Government contract. She made the passage from land to land in 97 days, and landed her passengers all in good health. Her cargo for this port has been forwarded per Canterbury. The ship Ashburton, one of Messrs. Young and Co.'s line, for Wellington and this port, reached the former port on the 26th ult., 110 days out. She brought 7 cabin and 92 steerage and intermediate passengers, all in good health; among them were 20 Government immigrants for Wellington. The Ashburton has both passengers and cargo for this port, and may be expected shortly. The Columbian with the European and English intelligence to the 16th September, arrived off Port Philip Heads at 9 p.m. on the 13th msfc., and anchored in Hobson's Bay about 8.45 to-day. She arrived at Suez on the 7th Sept., at 3 a.m. and was detained there until the 27fch, when she received her mails, and started at 9 a.m. She called at the following places :— Aden, 3rd Oct., 12.15 p.m.; Point de Galle, 14th Oct., 4.40 p.m., and left on the 17th; King George's Sound, on the sth Nov., 11 a.m., and left on the 7th, at 8.30 a.m. She has consumed during the trip 5327 tons of coal, and will receive 200 tons here. She will proceed as soon as possible to Sydney, where her machinery will have to undergo a thorough refit, as she has broken down several times on her passage hence. — Argus, Nov. 14. The Ariel was advertised to leave Melbourne for Wellington and Nelson on the 20th »Nov.

ENGLISH SHIPPING,

The Great Britain arrived August 22,92 days out from Melbourne, having met with severe weather.

The crippled steamer Oneida reached Southampton on the 26th of August, 117 days out. The Monsoon, Capt. Turnbull, arrived from Wellington on the sth September. The Bosworth: sailed for Otago and Canterbury about the 20fch August; the George Canning for Otago on the 22nd of the same month ; and the Acasta for Wellington and Nelson on September 4.

The following vessels were advertised to sail for the Southern ports of New Zealand on the days mentioned: For Canterbury, Otago and Nelson, the Palmyra, Morrison & Co.'s Line, on the Ist Oct.; for Canterbury, the Westminster, Young & Co.'s line, on the 2nd Oct.; ft>r Otago and Canterbury, the Roehampton, Willis & Co.'s line, on the Ist Oct. The George Canning, from London to Otago, New Zealand, cleared at Gravesend on the 22nd Aug., with 7 cabin and 133 second cabin and steerage passengers. She will be followed by the Strathallen, from Leith, about the 22nd Sept. This vessel is just off the stocks at Dundee; she is expected to carry about 240 adults. Another vessel, under the contract with the Otago Provincial Government, will leave London about the 15th October, and in aU probability one from the Clyde about the end of October.— A. and N. Z.
