Correspondence.
To the Editor of the 'Lyttelton Times' Sic, —The question put to me in your columns by Mr. Moore was answered on the Hustings upon the occasion of my re-election to the Provincial Council. I am not sorry that you have again drawn attention to the subject; particularly as no report of what took place at the nomination of candidates for the Heathcote district appeared in your columns. My answer to the question was, and is,that I am pledged to go to Auckland. But in a colony circumstances are ever changing, and it is impossible for men, not wholly independent, to say what may occur to prevent them from carrying out intentions they had once honestly formed. Most of your readers are aware that since my election I have entered upon a business which demands my constant personal attention, and to leave it now would be a great personal sacrifice; nevertheless, I should not shrink from discharging the duties I have undertaken unless released from that obligation by the sanction of a majority of those who elected me. I need scarcely add, however, that seeing the very great necessity which has arisen for the attendance of the men from the South, except a very urgent private necessity to the contrary shall prevent itself—a necessity which I shall endeavour to avert,—l will attend in my place in the General Assembly. I am, sir, Yours very respectfully, J. OLLIVIER.
