&a jj TO MR, J. G. FYFE. $ DEAR SIR,—We, the unfeigned 1 Electors of the Port "Victoria Dis- % trict and others, feeling confident that you are J a fit and proper person to represent that Dis- | trict.in the Provincial Council, request that you | will allow yourself to be put in nomination for | that district, and we pledge ourselves to use | our best exertions to secure your return. ' '{ We remain, | Dear sir, | Yours faithfully, % John T. Parkinson and others. \ Lyttelfcon, October 26, 1857. j GENTLEMEN,— I cannot but feel! highly honoured by the numerously j signed requisition which you have presented to I me. - • - Although. I might wish that I had a much \ larger portion of time to devote to your ser- j vice, and therefore be a more efficient represen- j tative, yet knowing how few there are in a more "-] fortunate position in this respect than myself, I feel it my duty to accept this flattering mark of your confidence; and will, if I am returned, i exert myself to the utmost of my ability in furthering the prosperity of the district of Port \ Victoria and the interests of the Province of ". Canterbury. ; j I am, Gentlemen, i Your obedient Servant, ; | J. G. FYFE. j _ To Mr. J. T. Parkinson and other gentlemen I signing the requisition. ] \ Lyttelton, October 27,1857. ! 10 THE ELECTORS OP THE TOWN OF LYTTELTON. ri ENTLEMEN,—In offering- myself as \J" a candidate for a seat in the Provincial Council as one of your representatives, I feel it necessary to apologise for what upon first sight may appear to many of you as "intrusion." You have hitherto been represented by gentlemen immediately connected with the town —resident among you—and, as such, painfully reminded of its numerous wants. Representatives possessing these claims en you are desirable; yet, as you are aware, it is not absolutely necessary that your choice should bg ' confined to them. Though I have now no immediate connection with the town of Lyttelton, yet I assure you no one feels greater interest in its prosperity, none would be more zealous in forwarding measures calculated to promote its welfare ; convinced as I am of this, that the well-being of the whole province is intimately connected with its progress. . ' Having a due sense of the importance of the trust I now seek at your hands, I pledge myself, if elected, to the utmost of my ability to prove myself worthy of the confidence reposed in me.
