WHEREAS a Writ, under the - hand of Thomas Gore Browne, Esquire, Com- ' panion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief,in and over the Colony of., New Zealand, <fee, bearing date the Fourteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand.eight hundred, and fiftyseven, hath been directed to me, Thomas Rowley, Esquire, as Returning Officer for the Avon District, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form bylaw prescribed, four legally qualified persons to serve as Members of the Provincial Council for the said Avon District. Now, therefore, I, the said Thomas Rowley, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the electors of the Avon District will be held at Mr. Gregg's barn, Riccarton, on Thursday, the sth day of November next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating four persons to serve as Members of the Provincial Council for the said Avon District ; and, in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Friday, the 6th day of November, at the following polling places, viz:— At the School Room, Papanui, and at Mr. Gregg's Barn, Riccarton.
