election of the Superintendent the Electors of Canterbury will be called upon to choose representatives for the new Council, having been requested by numerous friends to come forward as a candidate at the next election for the Kaiapoi District, I have consented to do so, and now solicit the honor of your votes. This being the first time that you have had the privilege of exercising your right of returning a member for this district, should you do me the honor to return me as one of your representatives, I pledge myself to use my utmost endeavours to advance the interests of this province, and of the rapidly growing and nourishing district of Kaiapoi in particular. As to my political opinions, I can hardly state them in so short a space as an address of this nature must of necessity occupy. I hope, however, to have the pleasure of meeting you at an early opportunity, when I can state my views on the subject more fully. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your most obedient servant, JOHN FULLER.
TO THE ELECTORS OP | THE HEATHCOTE DISTRICT. rjENTLEMEN,—I beg to announce myself as a candidate to represent you in the Provincial Council. Having had the honour of a seat in that Council since the extension of its numbers, as one of the members for the Christchurch Country District, I may be permitted to refer you to my services during the whole of that time, as the best testimony to my qualifications for the office. My attendance in the Council and on committees, and my recorded votes will satisfy you that I have never shrunk from at least the'attempt faithfully to discharge my duties, and they will also convince you that I have never absented myself from my place in the Council, in order to evade recording my vote upon any measure which carried with it a clear exposition of my opinion. Should I have the honor to be re-elected, I promise you that I wiil endeavour to pursue the same independent course; and that I will to the best of my ability at all times zealously guard your interests. As it is not my intention to make a personal canvass, I beg to remind you that the nomination is fixed for the sth November, at Christchurch Quay, and.the polling for the day after (the 6th) at the same place, and at Mr. Archer's on the Lower Lincoln Road. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, your obedient servant, J. OLLIVIER.
TO THE ELECTORS OF THE AVON DISTRICT. HAVING represented the Christchurch Country District in the Provincial Council from the first election of that body, I now offer myself as a candidate to represent you in the next Council, as I feel that I am more peculiarly connected with the electors of the Avon District than with any other portion of my former constituency. In requesting your support upon the present occasion, I can only say that, should you do me the honor to elect me, I shall, as I have hitherto done, endeavour to promote the interests of this district as well as of the Province at large. My public conduct will be influenced now as formerly by a conviction that the duties of a Member of the Provincial Council consist in promoting px-actical improvements leather than in discussing political theories. I may refer to the discharge of my duties as Speaker of the late Council as a guarantee for due attention to the business which may be entrusted to me as your representative. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, CHAI LES BOWEN. NOTICE. PROVINCE OF CANTERBURY TO WIT. AKAROA DISTRICT.
