A T a Public.Meeting of Members of the -LJL Church of England, held in the temporary Church, at Lyttelton, on Wednesday the 19th instant,- the following were adopted:— "That designs be invited for a Church, capable of holding 400 worshippers, to be built of wood or stone, and not to cost more than £1200; such designs, to be submitted for approval to a public meeting; and that tenders be afterwards invited for the construction of the building, according to the approved design." "That the Incumbent and Churchwardens be requested to carry out the above Resolutions." ; Designs. (forwarded in compliance with the above .Resolutions), must be sent to Mr. Bayfield, Lyttelton, on or before the 29th of September next. With each design must be for? warded a sealed envelope, bearing a motto or other reference to the drawings, and containing the name of the person by whom they have been furnished. . . B- W. PROVINCE OF CANTERBURY. ; WHEREAS a WRIT, under the hand of THOMAS GORE BROWNE, Esquire, Companion of the Mo?t Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Com-mander-in-chief in and over the Colony of New Zealand, &c, &c. bearing date the Fourteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and, Fifty-seven, hath been directed .to me, Charles Christopher/Bo wen, Esquire, as Returning Officer for the Province of Canterbury, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, a legally qualified person to serve as Superintendent for the Province of Canterbury: Now, therefore, I, the said Charles Christopher Bowen, do hereby in pursuance of .the said recited Writ, give notice that a public meeting of the Electors of the Province of Canterbury will be liolden at the Town Hall, Christchurch, on SATURDAY, the 24th day of October nest, at noon, for the purpose of nominating a person to serve as Superintendent for the Province of Canterbury ; and, in the event of.a Poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on FRIDAY, the 30th day of October next, at the following Polling places, viz., IN THE TOWN OF CHEISTCHURCH At the Provincial Council Chamber. IN THE TOWN OF LYTTELTON At the Court House. IN THE KAIAPOI DISTRICT At the Court House. IN THE AVON DISTRICT At the School Room, Papanui, and at Mr. Gregg's Barn, Riccarton. IN THE HEATHCOTE DISTRICT At Chrisfechureh Quay, and at Mr. Archer's House, Lower Lincoln Road. IN THE AKAROA DISTRICT At Mr. Tuson's House, Okain's Bay, at the School House, Pigeon Bay, and at the Court House, Akaroa. IN THE PORT VICTORIA DISTRICT At Mr. Rhodes's House, Purau, 'and at Mr. Blatchford's House, Governor's Bay.IN THE ASHLEY DISTRICT At the Woolshed, Teviotdale, and at Mr. Torlesse's House, Rangiora. IN THE RAKAIA DISTRICT At Mr. Ross's Station, and at Mr. E. Chapman's Station, Rakaia. IN THE TIMARU DISTRICT At Mr. Macdonald's Station, at the residence of Mr. John Hayhurst, and at the office of the Resident Magistrate, Timaru. The voting to commence at any time after nine o'clock a.m., of the.said 30th day of October, and to close at four o'clock p.m. of the same day. CHARLES C. BOWEN, Principal Returning Officer.
