Companion of the most honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the colony of New Zealand, &c, &c, bearing date the Fourteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-seven, hath been directed to me, William Cockerill Beswick, Esquire, as Returning Officer for the District of Kaiapoi, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, two legally qualified persons to serve as members of the Provincial Council, for the said district of Kaiapoi: Now, therefore, I, the said William Cockerill Beswick, 'do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a Public Meeting of the Electors of the Kaiapoi Distinct, will be holden at the Court House, Kaiapoi, on Friday, the 6th day of November next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating two persons to serve as members of the Provincial Council for the said Kaiapoi District; and, in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Monday, the 9th day of November next, at the Court House, Kaiapoi.
