ALPORT begs to announce that his NEXT WEEKLY SALE of Merchandise by Auction will take place at his Auction Rooms on WEDNESDAY, 9th September, to consist principally of— Drapery Goods, White and coloured blankets, clothing, doeskin, cloth and moleskin in piece, flannel and other soft goods. THE Provincial Government are prepared to receive tenders for about 1,500 cubic yards of METAL to be kid on Oxford Terrace and Cashel street,1 Christchurch. WHEREAS a Writ, under the hand of Thomas Gore Browne, Esquire, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-chief in and pver the Colony of New Zealand, &c., &c., bearing date the fourteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fiffcyTseven> hath been directed to me Belfield Woollcombe, Esquire, as Returning Officer for the District of Timaru, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, a-, legally qualified person to serve as a Member of the Provincial Council for the said District of Timaru: Now, therefore I, the said Belfield Woollcombe, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the electors of the Timaru District, will be holden at the Resident Magistrate's Office, Timaru, on Friday, the .6th day of November next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating a person to serve as a Member of the Provincial Council for the said Timaru District; and, in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, sudh polling shall take place on Monday, the~9fch day of November next,' at the following polling places, viz., .
