T IIHE Provincial Government are preJL pared to receive Tenders from peiv sons willing to engage in the construction of roads or other Public Works, and to receive payment in land, under the 43rd clause of the Waste Land Regulations now in force. 2. Every tender must contain a specification of the Public Work which it is proposed to construct, and the sum in money for which the contractor is willing to undertake it; and the time within which it is to be completed. 3. Every Tender must also contain a careful description of the portion of land which the contractor desires to receive in payment for such work. 4. No Tender will be accepted on which the quantity of land applied for exceeds one acre for every Two Pounds Sterling of the value pf the work to be done. — . 5. No Tender will be accepted' except on the written certificate of the Provincial Engineer, that the work proposed to be done is of public benefit, and is bona fide worth the sum specified in the Tender. 6. As soon as any Tender shall be accepted by the "Government, the land applied for will be reserved from sale until the completion of the work. Esquire, Companion of the Mos-t Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Com-mander-in-chief in and over the Colony of New Zealand, &c, &c, bearing date the Fourteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-seven, hath been directed to me, Charles Christopher Bo wen, Esquire, as Returning Officer for the Province of Canterbuiy, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, arid in manner and form by law prescribed, alegally qualified person to serve as Superintendent for the Province of Canterbury: Now, therefore, I, the said Charles Christopher Bowen, do hereby in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that a public meeting of the Electors of the Province of Canterbury will be holden at the Town Hall, Christchurch, on SATURDAY, the 241h day of October next, at noon, for the purpose,of. nominating a person to serve as Superintendent for the Province of Canterbury ; and, in the event of a Poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on FRIDAY, the 30th day of October next, at the following Polling places, viz., IN THE TOWN OF CHRISTCHTTRCH At the Provincial Council Chamber.
