ON MONDAY NEXT, the 24th Inst., Bis Honor the Superintendent will OPEN THE SUMNER ROAD, Those gentlemen who are desirous of joining in the ceremony are requested to meet the Superintendent at his office, at Ten o'Clock, a.m., whence lie will proceed along the Road into Lyttelton, stopping for half an hour at Sumner. RICHARD PACKER, Provincial Secretary. Provincial Secretary's Office, Christchurch, August 18th, 1857. N.B.—Although the Road will be formally opened on the 24th Instant, in consequence of His. Honor's leaving the province, yet, as the blasting and other works will not be completed, the Road will not be opened for general traffic for some weeks later. PUBLIC NOTICE. HIS Honor the Superintendent directs that MONDAY NEXT, the 24th Instant, being the occasion of Opening the Sumner Road, may be observed as a PUBLIC , HOLIDAY, and that the Offices of the Provincial Government be closed. ON the occasion of the Opening of the Sumner^Road by His Honor the Superintendent, on MONDAY NEXT, AUGUST 24th, A PUBLIC DINNER will take place under his Honor's special patronage, at the UNIVERSAL HOTEL, LYTTELTON. Dinner will be on the Table at Two o'Clock. Tickets, 10s. each (including wine, &c.,) to be had up to Saturday Evening, Aug. 22nd, at the Universal Hotel, and the "Times" Office, Lyttelton, and at the Standard Office, Christchurch. UNION BANK OF AUSTRALIA. MONDAY Next,, the 24th inst., having been proclaimed a Public Holiday by the Provincial Government, this Bank will be closed. JOSEPH PALMER. 'j Manager.
